2010 DAWN Candidate Training a Success
DAWN's List coordinated our fourth biannual training for Democratic prochoice women candidates in Iowa. Twenty Five women gathered on a May 16, 2010 to learn, share, and prepare for the 2010 Legislative campaigns.
An intense and fast paced training was held for Democratic prochoice women candidates, campaign activists and staff, and women considering a future run. Training focused on message building, issue identification, voter contact, fundraising, technology, and campaign timelines. Although the day went from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the time just flew by.
The training curriculum was designed by incumbent Senators Pam Jochum, Staci Appel, and Amanda Ragan along with Representatives Beth Wessel-Kroescell and Mary Mascher. Presentations that focused on critical issues in the Democratic Platform were given by Julie Stauch of Planned Parenthood and Carolyn Jenison of One Iowa. Writer and blogger Lynda Waddington of Essential Estrogen gave a presentation on use of technology to win. And a surprise and inspiring visit was made by former Iowa First Lady Christi Vilsack.
We all must support Democratic prochoice women running for the Iowa Legislature with our time, our money, and our vote! They are working hard to win their races and they will work hard to make Iowa stronger and assure that our state uses its resources wisely.
Iowa must have more women at the policy table. The 2010 Democratic women candidates have the courage, knowledge, and strength to win. They will change the face of Iowa politics and improve government for all of Iowa.
