SUPPORT FROM DAWN'S LIST
DAWN's List endorses legislative candidates after the Steering Committee reviews the candidate's responses to our DAWN's List questionnaire. After reviewing the information, candidates are "recommended" to the membership for financial support. DAWN's List also chooses a limited number of candidates to target for more intense fundraising, candidate mentoring, and volunteer efforts. DAWN's List is also working to raise the profile of Democratic pro-choice women running for non-legislative office (statewide, county, local) in Iowa. We include these candidates in our questionnaire process. After reviewing a candidate's questionnaire, the Steering Committee determines if the she meets DAWN's List criteria and may vote to 'commend and recommend' this candidate. We list these candidates in our literature and on our website and encourage you to become familiar with their campaigns. DAWN's List considers several political factors in selecting candidates to support and recommend: Viability - Candidates must be viable contenders with a strong campaign organization and ability to raise funds. Demographics - Voter demographics of each candidate's district are examined. Electability - Candidates in a race with an open seat are given preference those challenging tough incumbents. Incumbency- Incumbents facing a tough re-election effort receive consideration. DAWN's List on a rare occasion will give direct financial support to viable candidates in select primaries and special elections. DAWN's List members are always encouraged to provide volunteer support to Democratic pro-choice candidates in their own and other districts. |
